We contacted a local hospital to see if this was something that was already being fulfilled here. They had some things, mostly small blankets, but not lots. After talking to the girl at the hospital, it helped us know what we needed to do. She said that they needed different sizes and for each gender, but especially how boy outfits are needed because sometimes for girls, a doll dress can be used, but it's more difficult to find something for a little boy. That's when blankets come into play and help. But, like she said, "Mother's don't want to bury their babies without clothes on." (I know, just thinking about it breaks my heart!) Well, hopefully they won't have to now!
So, we've been busy getting to work! When mom and I first talked about doing this, it was March 28th, so it's been less than a month and we have quite a few dresses finished. We're still working on the pattern for little boy outfits, but we look forward to working on those too!
So, while I was ironing the one I was making yesterday, I noticed one of my daughters little dolls, and thought, "that might be a good doll to use for sizing." (I know, breaks my heart again...) So, we put her in some of the picture for sizing comparison.
We make the back open and just with ribbon to tie it. It's easier for the nurses to dress that way.
Just comparing with a pencil for size.
We'll post more pictures as more are made!
